What is Mental Wellness?

Mental wellness is a balance that we all strive for. But what is it? How do we quantify it and know once we obtain? Understand that balance and wellness are subjective to each individual. According to the World Health Organization, mental wellness is defined as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

Mental Health Wellness is

-the ability to maintain rational thought patterns

-the ability to relax your body and mind

-the ability to function during work, home and leisure activities

-the ability to prioritize and engage in your self care-the ability to learn

-the ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotion

-the ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with others

-the ability to cope with and manage change, uncertainty and stress
