Becoming a Skilled Sailor

“Smooth seas never made for a skilled sailor” - Franklin D Roosevelt. I have always loved this quote especially in correlating it to mental health. It is the rough times when we learn and utilize new skills for emotional distress, mindfulness, coping, balance as well as emotional and behavioral change. If you never experience anger, you do not have an opportunity to use your anger management skills. If you want to obtain balanced, mental wellness do not underestimate the importance of challenging times. Internal conflict and struggle often led to reflection, self awareness and course correction. Persevering through obstacles make mold a skilled sailor.
